Anup Kumar Karar belongs to the genre of artists from Bengal who have come out of the influence of nineteenth country Bengal stalwarts to establish their own presence in the art centers of today.
Anup graduated in Fine Arts from Indian College of Arts, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in 1988. He has participated in several state and national level exhibitions and in group shows throughout the country & abroad.
He usually works in Oil and sometimes in Acrylic. Some people have discovered surrealism in his work, but it seems his work is an attempt to express the impact of social phenomena on the human psyche. These expressions emanate from deep within the human heart. The feelings of rejection and failure find place in his work. Sometimes he tries to depict the effect of degradation of human values in modern life. The human spirit overcomes the constraints of circumstance and social necessity and looks towards a brighter future. This is possibly what compels him to use bright colours and the touch of red that is the human spirit.
